Police have launched an urgent search close to a river in Grimbsy after two boys were found unwell close by.
were called to the River Freshney after two kids fell sick on Sunday. The force confirmed investigations are underway to "establish if there are any other people that require assistance".
It remains unclear why or how the boys dropped ill. Specialist officers have joined forces with emergency services to uncover more information regarding the mystery illness. Humberside Fire & Rescue Service said it has sent out resources to assist with the incident including three appliances and one boat.
Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance arrived near the scene at 9:44am, according to data on Flight Radar. It appeared to land near Willows Academy.
A scene guard is in place during the search. In a statement, Humberside Police said: "Enquiries are underway in Grimsby after two teenage boys were found unwell near to the River Freshney shortly after 5am this morning, Sunday 20 October.
"A scene guard is currently in place whilst specialist officers and partner agencies carry out searches in the area to establish if there are any other people that require assistance.
Emergency service, HM Coastgoard were also called to the scene shortly before 4am. A spokesperson said: "HM Coastguard received a request to assist the police with a search near the River Freshney, at 3:45 this morning, 20 October. Cleethorpes and Donna Nook coastguard rescue teams and a coastguard helicopter were sent. The police and fire service also attended."
According to local groups, people were spotted canoeing in the river over the last few days. It is unclear whether anyone else has been affected.
The River Freshney, which runs through the centre of Grimsby, flows north and is assisted by another stream, which flows past earthworks, dating from the English Civil War.
