Made-in-India Maruti Suzuki Fronx scores 4 stars in JNCAP crash tests: Details

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx has scored a 4-star safety rating in the Japan New Car Assessment Programme (JNCAP), its first safety evaluation since its launch. The model is manufactured at Maruti’s plant in Gujarat and is exported to Japan. Under the 2025 JNCAP evaluation, the vehicle secured an overall score of 163.75 out of 193.8 points. It scored 79.42 out of 85.8 in preventive safety performance and 76.33 out of 100 in collision safety performance.

In the full-wrap frontal collision test at 50 kmph, the Fronx earned a Level 5 rating. The offset frontal collision test, simulating a partial front-end crash at the same speed, resulted in a 4 out of 5 rating for occupant protection with a score of 21.08 out of 24. However, the vehicle was penalised for potential damage to other vehicles, scoring -2.12 out of 5.

During the side impact test at 55 kmph, curtain airbags functioned effectively, securing a Level 5 rating. In rear-end collision simulations, both front seats received a Level 4 rating for whiplash protection. For pedestrian safety, the Fronx received a Level 3 for head protection and Level 5 for leg protection. It also scored a perfect Level 5 in the Autonomous Emergency Braking test and in lane departure prevention.

The Japanese-spec Fronx comes with enhanced features, setting it apart from its Indian counterpart. The compact SUV gets an all-wheel-drive option with four modes: Auto, Sport, Snow, and Lock. In addition to AWD, the Japan-spec Fronx is outfitted with a host of ADAS features . The ADAS features include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and front parking sensors. An electronic parking brake with a hill-hold function and heated seats are other major highlights of the Japan-spec model. Besides that, the model also gets a re-tuned suspension setup for the Japanese market.


Under the hood, the Japan-spec Fronx is powered by a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine , available with a choice between a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission.
