Numaligarh (Assam) [India], September 13 (ANI): Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, on Saturday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for projects worth over Rs 12,000 crore during his visit to Numaligarh in Assam on Sunday, describing it as a historic moment for the state and the Northeast.
In a post on X after addressing a curtain-raiser press conference at the Numaligarh Refinery Ltd township, Puri said there was "tremendous excitement and palpable enthusiasm" among the people ahead of the Prime Minister's arrival.
He wrote, "Delighted to be at the verdant Numaligarh Refinery Ltd township for a curtain-raiser Press Conference ahead of PM Sh @narendramodi Ji's visit tomorrow to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of projects worth over Rs 12,000 crores. There is tremendous excitement and palpable enthusiasm in the people as they eagerly await Hon'ble PM's arrival tomorrow in Numaligarh."
He highlighted that one of the marquee projects is a Rs 5,000 crore second-generation bioethanol plant, which he said is the "first such unit in the world."
"Briefed my friends in the media on the significance of this historic moment for the people of Assam & the North-east. This Rs 5,000 crore 2nd generation Bioethanol plant is the first such unit in the world to utilise Bamboo, a plant abundant in the North-east," the Union minister wrote.
He added, "A Zero-waste plant, it utilises every part of the Bamboo to produce high-value industrial chemicals such as Green Furfural and Green Acetic Acid, which is used in APIs, food-grade CO2 and Bio-coal. This plant also champions Net Zero, producing 25 MW of Green electricity.'
Puri said an equally important project was the Rs 7,000 crore Polypropylene plant, which would reduce India's polypropylene import dependency by 20 per cent and generate foreign exchange savings of USD 85 million every year.
He wrote, "Equally important is the Rs 7,000 crore Polypropylene plant, which will reduce India's polypropylene import dependency by 20 per cent. It will generate foreign exchange savings of USD 85 million every year and create employment equivalent to 75,000 man-days annually."
"These projects, together worth over Rs 12,000 crores position Assam and the North-east in the centre of the global green energy and petrochemical landscape. These reflect PM Modi Ji's love and dedication for the people of Assam and the North-East, and his commitment toward #NetZero and #AtmanirbharBharat," the Union Minister added on X.
On September 14, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of major infrastructure and industrial development projects worth over Rs 18,530 crore in Assam.
In Darrang, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of multiple projects. The projects include Darrang Medical College & Hospital, GNM School, and B.Sc. Nursing College, strengthening medical education and healthcare delivery in the region; Guwahati Ring Road Project that will enhance urban mobility, decongest traffic, and improve connectivity in and around the capital city; and Kuruwa-Narengi Bridge over River Brahmaputra, improving connectivity and promoting socio-economic development in the region.
At Numaligarh in Golaghat, Prime Minister will inaugurate the Assam Bioethanol Plant at Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) aimed at promoting clean energy and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
He will also lay the foundation stone of the Polypropylene Plant at Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), adding significant value to Assam's petrochemical sector. It will also generate employment opportunities and lead to the overall socio-economic development of the region. (ANI)
