Kiko Live, a quick commerce firm supporting kirana stores, has introduced a cash-on-delivery (COD) option for online grocery orders.
Kiko ran a pilot before the launch wherein the neighborhood stores that activated the COD feature reported a 30% increase in daily online orders. This surge has directly translated into a 30% rise in online revenue for participating sellers. The company enables local retailers to set up their own digital storefronts, offering a quick commerce experience with real-time delivery tracking. The addition of COD mirrors the real-world habits of customers who are used to receiving goods at their doorstep before making payment — a behavior still dominant in India’s ecommerce space.
Alok Chawla, co-founder of Kiko Live, said, “One of the key reasons customers stay loyal to their neighborhood stores is the flexibility these retailers offer — whether it is paying in cash or settling bills weekly through a ‘khata’. With this launch, we are preserving those trusted relationships while giving both customers and sellers a seamless online experience.”
The firm has also digitized the traditional credit system, enabling sellers to assign customer-specific credit limits and track transactions with full transparency. Both buyers and sellers can now access detailed order histories, eliminating the errors and disputes that often arise from handwritten records. This not only strengthens trust but also ensures timely payments and better cash flow management for retailers.
To ensure a smooth rollout, Kiko Live initially launched the feature with 80 Kirana stores across Delhi NCR. After some early hiccups — such as customers placing test orders without intent to purchase, the platform introduced a verification system. Loyal customers can now check out directly with COD if their phone number is registered with the seller, while new users can gain access after their first successful delivery. This approach ensures COD is available to genuine buyers, while minimizing disruptions for retailers.
“We have already seen strong adoption among our pilot stores. Each of them is now processing over 20 online orders daily. Based on current trends, we expect more than 50% of our network’s online orders to come through COD in the next 10 to 12 months," Imran Alam, VP Sales at Kiko Live, added.
With this launch, Kiko Live is solving for convenience and payment flexibility as well as reinforcing the trust that has always been the foundation of India’s neighborhood retail, it said.
