A 30-year-old man from China is gaining attention for using his luxury Mercedes-Maybach S480 as a ride-hailing vehicle, earning over ₹59,000 in just one trip, as reported by South China Morning Post.

The man, known as Yuan, resides in Beijing and operates a social media account called " Old Yuan Drives a Maybach for Ride-Hailing." His unusual profession has gained him almost 120,000 followers online.

Yuan, originally from Henan province in northern China, has been in the luxury ride-hailing business since 2019. On November 1 of the previous year, he purchased the Maybach for 1.55 million yuan (around ₹1.80 crore) and started sharing his journey to recoup the cost.

In a video posted on April 13, Yuan shared that he began his day early in the morning and earned 4,000 yuan (around ₹46,000) after completing a full day of rides. He mentioned, “Let’s go! Driving a luxury Maybach for ride-hailing is not just my job, but my livelihood. Right now, the Maybach model can only be specially ordered for ride-hailing in Beijing and Shanghai.”

He added, "It's unclear when it will be available in other cities, so please be mindful and watch carefully."

Loan details
In an interview with Haibao News on April 15, Yuan revealed that he made a down payment of 680,000 yuan (₹79.7 lakh), with 500,000 yuan (₹58.6 lakh) coming from his six years of savings. The rest was financed through a five-year loan, resulting in monthly EMIs of 14,466 yuan (₹1.7 lakh).

Quality focus
Yuan explained that he prioritises quality over quantity by serving high-end, pre-booked clients. He averages around 40 rides per month, with some passengers paying over 5,000 yuan (approximately ₹58,600) per trip. Despite his expenses, he manages to save nearly 10,000 yuan (₹1.1 lakh) each month while enjoying a relaxed lifestyle.

Financial balance
Yuan shared, "My monthly fuel expenses are around 3,000 yuan (₹35,000). I spend an additional 2,000 to 3,000 yuan (₹23,000 to ₹35,000) on food, and my rent is 4,500 yuan (₹52,700). Even after these costs, I still manage to save some money. The best part is I get to drive a Maybach at just 30 and still save nearly 10,000 yuan a month."

Online debate
His story has sparked much debate online. One user commented, "Is he rich or not? If he is, why is he still doing ride-hailing? If he's not, how can he afford a Maybach?"

Another user added, "I just checked the fare for an S-class Mercedes. A 5.5 km ride costs almost 300 yuan (₹3,500). Who would actually hail a Maybach? I'm not sure I'll ever get the chance to ride one in my lifetime."
