In a series of operations, Indian Army and Assam Rifles units under the Spear Corps launched multiple information-based operations in various districts of Manipur, between April 13 and 19 and recovered several arms and ammunition, officials said on Monday.
The operations were launched in coordination with Manipur Police, CRPF, BSF, and ITBP in Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, Imphal East and Imphal West districts.
During these operations, a training camp was destroyed and 22 weapons, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), grenades, ammunition and other war-like stores were recovered.
On April 13, in Sanasabi of Imphal East district, the Army and Manipur Police launched a joint operation and recovered four improvised mortars, grenades, ammunition and other war-like stores. Whereas, in Churachandpur district, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police destroyed a training camp of cadres in the general area of Gelmoul village.
In Saidan of Churachandpur district, the Army and Manipur Police recovered seven weapons comprising one .303 rifle, one 9mm pistol, one modified Carbine Machine Gun, one single-barrel rifle, one modified 81 mm mortar, two country-made mortars (pompi), ammunition and war-like stores on April 16.
On April 17, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police in Imphal West, Imphal East and Tengnoupal district recovered one AK rifle, one SLR, one 9mm carbine machine gun, one modified single-barrel rifle, one pistol, ammunition and war-like stores from Sanjebam. Whereas, in another operation, in Imphal East district, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police recovered four weapons comprising one 7.62mm SLR, one 7.65mm pistol, two single-barrel breech-loading rifles (SBBL), grenades, ammunition and war-like stores.
In Tengnoupal district, a joint operation in the general area of Salvom resulted in the recovery of two pistols and 10 IEDS, grenades, ammunition and war-like stores. The recovered items have been handed over to the Manipur Police.
