Kamala Harris' running mate and Minnesota governor Tim Walz came under fire on social media after he called billionaire Elon Musk 'that gay guy'.

In a campaign speech at Michigan's Detroit, Walz tried to take take a dig at Elon Musk while listing the advantages that billionaires enjoy in America.

"If you're a billionaire--Elon Musk for example, that guy, that gay guy... Michigan knows that word. Look, that dude got a tax cut," Walz was quoted as saying.

The Harris campaign's Vice President hopeful was trying to use what appeared to be a humourous metaphor as a way to shed light on the economic advantages that the top class Americans get over the middle and lower income citizens in the States.

After Walz was done talking though, spectators were left divided in their responses over the comment. While some were visibly irked, others took it in a light way.

Citizens' reactions on the comment, however, wasn't limited to just the campaign rally. The video of the comment went viral on social media, triggering a variety of reactions and opinions by users.

Elon Musk, too, had a few words to say on Walz' remarks on the X CEO.

"I have no problem being called gay tbh," said Musk, reacting to a post on Walz' speech on X.

Meanwhile, some others took offence of the statement.

"So Democrats are using the word 'gay' as an insult again, too? I thought they liked gay people?" asked one user online.

Someone also took this opportunity to bring back memories of Walz' past remarks on Musk, accusing him of 'being jealous and having an obsession' with Musk.

"He seems to have an obsession… he’s probably jealous because Elon is a better and more accomplished man than he will ever be," said the X user.

Walz came under fire for this remark just four days before the US Elections on November 5.

It should be noted that Walz represents the Democrats, the US political party known for its liberalism and acceptance of human rights, in all forms.

Moreover, the Harris campaign has, on numerous occasions, claimed that Donald Trump-led Republicans will abolish rights like abortion if they win the elections.
