Shubman Gill has been made the new captain of India. The Indian selectors announced the Test team for the England tour on Saturday. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that Shubman Gill will be the captain of the team and Rishabh Pant will be the vice-captain. The Indian team will play the first Test match on the England tour from June 20. This will be India's first series after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from Tests.

The Indian Test team has undergone a huge change in five months. There are at least 5 changes in the Indian team that went to Australia in December last year and announced for the England tour. The most surprising change in the Indian team has been the return of Karun Nair. He has returned to the team after 8 years. On the other hand, senior fast bowler Mohammed Shami has not been selected in the team for the England tour. Shami played the last Test in 2023.
Shubman is the fifth-youngest captain.
On Shubman Gill being made the Test captain, Ajit Agarkar said, 'He is very young. We have seen improvement in him. Captaining the Indian team is a very stressful job but we have expectations from him.' Shubman Gill will be the third youngest captain of India. When the team was announced today, he was 25 years and 258 days old. When Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev, and Ravi Shastri captained India for the first time, they were younger than Shubman. The youngest Indian captain was Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. When Tiger Pataudi took charge of the country for the first time, he was 21 years and 77 days old.
Jasprit Bumrah will play 3 or 4 Tests
Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will not be available for all five Test matches against England. The Chief Selector also said that Bumrah would play only three or four matches in the series. Fast bowlers Harshit Rana and Sarfaraz Khan, who were part of the team on the Australia tour, have not been selected for the England tour.

Indian Test Team: Shubman Gill (Captain), Rishabh Pant (Vice-Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudarshan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (Wicketkeeper), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav.
