When is Nag Panchami in 2025?

In the year 2025, the Panchami Tithi of Sawan Shukla Paksha will start at 11:24 pm on 28 July and will end at 12:46 am on 30 July. According to Udaya Tithi, the festival of Nag Panchami will be celebrated on Tuesday, 29 July. The auspicious time for worship on this day will be from 5:41 am to 8:23 am. Thus, the total duration of the puja will be about 2 hours 43 minutes.

Why is milk offered to snakes?

A special story related to Nag Panchami is mentioned in the Brahma festival of Bhavishya Purana. According to this, Sumantu Muni had told the glory of this fast to King Shatanik. It is said that a special festival is celebrated in Naglok on the day of Shravan Shukla Panchami. The person who bathes the snakes with cow's milk on this day, the snake deity, frees his clan from fear and gets rid of Kaal Sarp Dosh.

According to an incident described in Mahabharata, when King Janmejaya performed a yajna for the destruction of snakes due to the death of his father, many snakes started burning in that yajna. At the same time, Aastik Muni stopped that yajna and protected the snakes. This incident also happened on the date of Shravan Shukla Panchami.

How to worship Nag Panchami?

On this day, take a vow to fast after taking a bath in the morning. For worship, install a clay idol or picture of the snake deity on a clean stand. Then offer them turmeric, roli, akshat, flowers, etc. Make a mixture of milk, ghee, and sugar and offer it to the snake deity. Finally, recite the Nag Panchami Vrat Katha and conclude the puja with Aarti.
