About Chutia Community
The Chutia community is an indigenous ethnic group of Assam, primarily residing in the upper Assam districts of Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Dhemaji, and Lakhimpur. Historically, they established the Chutiya Kingdom (12th–16th century) in the Brahmaputra Valley, noted for its rich culture, agricultural prosperity, and contributions to Assamese society. Today, the Chutiyas are recognised as an Other Backward Class (OBC) in Assam and are mainly engaged in agriculture, small businesses, and public service, while preserving their distinct traditions, linguistic influences, and cultural expressions of festivals such as Bihu.
