Actress Kayadu Lohar, who became an overnight sensation in the Tamil film industry after the success of her film Dragon, has come under the Enforcement Directorate's scanner, after it discovered her links with those associated with the Tasmac scam. The actress was reportedly paid lakhs to attend "night parties", ED officials found out.
As per reports, multiple ED raids were conducted as part of the ongoing investigation in the Tasmac scam, during which Lohar's name cropped up. Those associated with the scam reportedly paid Rs 35 lakh to the actress to attend night parties organised by them.
The news has left the entire Tamil film industry shocked, and it also hinted at deep-seated corruption across industries in the state. Lohar is yet to react to the allegations.
Who is Kayadu Lohar?
For those unversed, Kayadu Lohar made her acting debut in 2021 with the Kannada film, Mugilpete. However, it was her 2025 film, Dragon, which propelled her to success.
Lohar played the role of Pallavi in Dragon, which also starred Pradeep, Anupama Parameswaran, Mysskin, and others. The film was directed by Ashwath Marimuthu.
Lohar, who hails from Tezpur in Assam, also featured in the Malayalam films Pathonpatham Noottandu and Oru Jaathi Jaathakam, Telugu film Alluri, Marathi film I Prem U, among others.
She will be next seen playing the lead in STR49 opposite Silambarasan.
What is the Tasmac scam?
The Tasmac scam is a massive scandal in connection to Tamil Nadu’s state-run liquor retail network, Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC). As the scam came to light, several officials and politicians were accused of siphoning off more than Rs 1000 crore through illegal liquor sales, fake billing, and kickbacks.
This scam has raised serious concerns about transparency and governance in state-run enterprises, and Lohar is the first celeb whose name has cropped up in the scam.
