Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal is on the brink of being handed two of the biggest honours a player can receive at the Catalan club Lionel Messi’s iconic No. 10 jersey and a staggering €1 billion release clause.
According to Memorabilia1899.co, the 17-year-old prodigy is reportedly set to be the next in line to wear the shirt immortalised by the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner. Currently worn by Ansu Fati, the No. 10 is expected to pass to Yamal ahead of the 2025–26 season, cementing his status as the face of Barça’s next golden era.
Barcelona to prepare record-breaking deal for Lamine Yamal
Barcelona’s plans go beyond symbolic recognition. The club, still wary of the financial and emotional scars left by Neymar’s controversial 2017 exit, is determined not to repeat history. As soon as Yamal turns 18, the Catalan giants are preparing to offer him a long-term contract that will include a €1 billion release clause one of the highest in football history.

Lamine Yamal's meteoric rise
Yamal has been instrumental in Barcelona’s domestic treble this season and has blossomed under new manager Hansi Flick into one of the most electrifying players in the world. Wearing the No. 19 which Messi also wore in his early days Yamal has already drawn comparisons to the Argentine legend and is seen by many as his spiritual heir at the club.
The decision to potentially skip the FIFA Club World Cup this summer might also work in Barça’s favour, as it allows Yamal a much-needed rest after logging over 8,600 minutes across two gruelling campaigns with a Ballon d’Or nomination in sight. Lamine Yamal became the first player ever to win two La Liga titles before turning 18
