A joyous celebration in Rajasthan ended like a dramatic television show. A wedding was called off at the nth minute. A couple had already taken six pheras in front of the fire, but the groom backed out at the last one. He refused to carry out the seventh phera with the bride seconds after receiving a phone call.
The incident took place in a village in Rajasthan. It was reported the Panchayat authorities after the wedding celebration ended up in an unexpected and unpleasant way.
The Nadoti police were informed of the scene after the bride's family reacted in aggression.
Wedding cancelled
When the groom cancelled the wedding, the bride and her family members created a ruckus at the celebration venue. According to a report in News18, the family took the groom, his father and a few others from his side hostage. They also demanded the groom to return the money spent on the celebration, claiming the expenses totalled to Rs. 56 lakh.
"Maaf kar dena"
The groom tried to take responsibility of his sudden decision by asking for forgiveness, saying "Maaf kar dena", reported Asianet News Hindi.
However, the exact reason that made the man cancel the wedding remains unclear. Locals reportedly stated that he received a call from a girl before taking the drastic move.
In a similar incident, a UP-based bride had made the headlines for backing out from his wedding during the last phera. The case was reported in 2021 when the lady revealed about cancelling the wedding because she didn't like the man she was getting married to.
