Navi Mumbai: The 35-year-old lady teacher from a Koparkhairane school, who was arrested for allegedly engaging in sexually explicit video chats with a Class X student, has been remanded to judicial custody.
No Other Complaints Yet, Say Police
Police officials confirmed that no other parent has come forward against her in similar case, assistant commissioner of police (Vashi division) Adinath Budhwant said.
Teacher Arrested, Sent to Judicial Custody
Identified as Neha Sharma, she is a divorcee residing alone in Ulwe, police said. The teacher was arrested after the boy’s mother found a screen-recorded video of the teacher behaving obscenely during an Instagram video chat with her son.
Based on the complaint filed by the mother, the Koparkhairane police booked the accused under sections 11 and 12 of the POCSO Act. She was first produced before the court on Tuesday and remanded to police custody for a day and then was produced on Wednesday which remanded her to judicial custody.
According to the information received from the police, the teacher accused of the alleged sexual harassment of the 15 year old student, is a resident of Ulwe and the victim boy lives in Koparkhairane.
Accused Exposed Herself During Instagram Video Chat
“The teacher being his class teacher was well acquainted with him. According to the police, the teacher then exposed her semi-naked body to the student and behaved obscenely in the video chat. The victim student, screen recorded the video and kept it saved in his mobile phone,” a police officer from Koparkhairane police station said.
Mother Discovered Video on Son’s Phone
On Sunday, when the victim's mother checked her son's mobile phone, she came across the video of the teacher in a semi-naked state, besides making obscene gestures and speech as well. Angered by this incident, the parents of the victim filed a complaint at the Koparkhairane police station on Monday.
