Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Operation Sindoor, women empowerment and Ahilya Bai’s 300th birth anniversary were the themes that dominated the mega event presided over by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Bhopla's Jamboree Maidan on Saturday.
Posters and banners carrying pictures of Modi in military attire dotted the venue of the Mahila Sashaktikaran Mahasammelan.
Most of the audience were waving tricolours, patriotic songs praising the military and slogans of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Vande Mataram’ were in the air. When Modi, during his speech referred to Operation Sindoor, the crowd broke into a rapturous applause shouting ‘Modi, Modi’.

Most of the banners and placards were centred on Operation Sindoor. Some of them read, “Sena ke samman mein, nari shakti maidan mein”, “Saugandh hai sindoor ki ye desh nahi jhukne doonga” and “Dhanyavaad Modiji (for Operation Sindoor).”
Others thanked the Indian armed forces and declared that the people are with them. ‘Jai Hind, Jai Hind Ki Sena’ was yet another slogan painted on placards.
Four huge domes, measuring 300 feet by 190 feet, housed the audience. Fans were few and far between, forcing the audience to use the placards they had brought along, hankies and whatever else they could lay their hands on to fan themselves.
Young girls from Panchsheel hostel in Bhopal were part of a troupe that presented a tribal dance, were too exhausted to keep awake by the time Modi began speaking.
Besides Ahilya Bai and the Prime Minister, only chief minister Mohan Yadav, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national chief JP Nadda could find place on the banners, posters and placards at the venue and along the road that led from the Chetak Bridge to Jamboree Maidan.

As Modi, flanked by chief minister Yadav and state BJP president VD Sharma, drove past riding an open jeep, people enthusiastically waved the tricolour from behind the tall barricades that separated them from the red-carpeted passage used by Modi’s makeshift rath.
The entry gates to the domes were painted with the names of the different schemes for women empowerment of the state government including gifting scooties to meritorious girl students and Ladli Laxmi.

Security was tight and even water bottles were not allowed inside. And as soon as Modi arrived, the mobile networks were jammed.
Radhabai (70), a farm labourer from a village near Bilkhiriya, said that she did not mind losing her Rs 300 daily wage for attending the function. “Modiji ko dekhne aaye hain, majdoori chhoot gayi magar koi baat nahin,” she said.
Sheetal (20), who is pursuing BA LLB from BU, had got up at 4 in the morning and was at the venue by 7 am. Vimlesh (50) was there with her 4-year-old grand daughter. “I have only had a cup of tea since the morning. But I am not feeling hungry at all,” she said.
