As soon as we talk about Lord Krishna, his Leelas start revolving in the mind and the city of Vrindavan still brings these Leelas alive. Lord Krishna spent his childhood in Vrindavan, situated on the banks of the Yamuna river. Due to this Vrindavan is considered to be a witness to countless Krishna Leelas. The ghats of Vrindavan also tell the story of Krishna Leela. However, most of the 38 ghats that narrate the Leelas of the Lord in Vrindavan have lost their existence. The ghats that are left are struggling for their existence. Today in this episode, we are going to tell you about some major ghats of Vrindavan, where visiting will make your journey enjoyable. Let us know about these ghats...
Keshi Ghat
Let us tell you that Keshi Ghat is located in the north-west direction of Vrindavan and near Bhramar Ghat. At present, this ghat is the main ghat of the city and can save its existence. According to the mythological mention related to this, Kansa sent a demon named Keshi to kill Lord Krishna, who reached the banks of Yamuna in the form of a horse. But Lord Krishna recognized him and killed him. After this incident, this ghat was named Keshi Ghat. It is believed that performing Pind Daan here gives the same result as Pind Daan performed in Gaya.
Kaley Mardan Ghat
When Lord Krishna was playing with his friends on the banks of the Yamuna, his ball reached the Yamuna. At that time, Kaley Naag had poisoned the water of Yamuna. No one used to enter Yamuna here. God had to perform his leela. On the pretext of bringing the ball, he jumped into Yamuna. There was a stir among the friends. Mother Yashoda and Nand Baba were restless. But in a short time, Lord Krishna forced Kaliy Mardan to leave Yamuna and came out of Yamuna dancing on the hood of Kaliy Naag. Since then, this ghat has been named Kaliya Mardan Ghat. It is located about half a mile north of Varah Ghat. This ghat was built by Holkar Rao.
Chiir Ghat
Chiir Ghat located in Vrindavan is a symbol of Lord Krishna's leela of stealing clothes. According to beliefs, Lord Krishna stole the clothes of the gopis at this ghat of the Yamuna River. It is said that through this Leela, Lord Krishna wanted to give a message to the gopis not to bathe in the river without wearing clothes. According to the belief, bathing in the river without wearing clothes causes Varun Dosh. Lord Krishna's Nritya Gopal temple is also present on the banks of Chiir Ghat.
Dhir Sameer Ghat
Dhir Sameer Ghat is located in the east direction of Keshi Ghat. According to the beliefs here, many leelas of Vrinda Devi are mentioned here. It was here that Vrinda Devi fainted after seeing Shri Krishna's eagerness to meet Radha Ji. Seeing the eagerness of Lord Krishna, Radha ji also came immediately with Vrinda Devi, after which the friend became happy seeing the union of Priya and Priyatam. It is said that this is why this ghat was named Dheer Sameer.
Suraj Ghat
This ghat is known as Dwadash or Aditya Ghat. Krishna started feeling cold after Kaliya Naag Daman. Then Lord Suryadev gave warmth to Krishna with his intense light. Then Krishna got some warmth and he started sweating. Here the sweat of Krishna went and mixed with Yamuna. Since then it is believed that all the sins of those who take baths on this ghat are destroyed. Five hundred years ago Sanatan Goswami used to serve Thakur Madan Mohan ji on this mound. The temple is still built on this Aditya mound.
Bihar Ghat
The Bihar Ghat of Vrindavan is also considered to be a witness to many Leelas of Lord Krishna. It is believed that during childhood, while grazing cows, Krishna used to sit on this ghat with his elder brother Balram and other cowherds and eat food. Krishna had also performed many leelas on the banks of this ghat.
Yugal Ghat
Yugal Ghat is situated to the north of Suraj Ghat. On this ghat, the ancient temple of Thakur Yugal Bihari is lying in a state without a peak. Near Kesi Ghat, on one side, there is a temple of Jugal Kishore. It is believed that the gopis sang leela here in the love of God, so this ghat was named Yugal Ghat. The Yugal Bihari temple located here was built in 1680 by King Pratapaditya's uncle Basant Rai. In the book of Growse, the construction of this ghat is also mentioned in the name of Haridas and Govind Das Thakur.
Govind Ghat
The Govind Ghat of Vrindavan is famous all over the world for its Maharas. According to mythological stories, Lord Krishna appeared on this ghat when the Gopis organized the Maharas. After this ghat came to be known as Govind Ghat. Even today, Raas Leelas are performed on this ghat throughout the year.
Vanshivat Ghat
The ghat situated on the banks of Muna is known as Vanshighat. It is said that the land where Lord Krishna performed Maharas with Radha Ji and the gopis is Vanshivat Ghat. Since Radha Ji and the gopis were mesmerized by the sounds coming from the Lord's flute and kept performing Maharas all night, it is said that even today Vanshivat is singing the tale of Lord's Maharas.
Pani Ghat
The name of this ghat is Pani Ghat. Due to the corruption in the language, it is now known as Pani Ghat. It is mentioned that once the gopis were crossing the Yamuna to feed Durvasa Muni. When the gopis asked Shri Krishna for a way to cross the Yamuna, the Lord said tell Yamuna that we have followed unbroken celibacy, so give way with the power of that penance. The gopis prayed laughingly and Yamuna became empty, the gopis crossed it. When the gopis returned in the evening, they questioned Durvasa Muni. After the knowledge imparted by the sage, the gopis returned and Yamuna also came back to its original form. Since then this ghat has been named Pani Ghat.
