"The whole idea that we are not women for that matter based on our sex is terrifying. For me and for us, my generation who have lived with those experiences of being discriminated and now having those protected rights taken away from us. It's very very dehumanising."

Nadia added that if she was taken into the male ward of a hospital as a result of this ruling, she would refuse life-saving treatment. "The idea of waking up in a male ward - I would rather refuse treatment than be subjected to that," she said. Nadia became upset as she spoke about how she may be challenged by members of the public as a result of the ruling.
"It means that I could be questioned by vigilantes under the pretence that they could call us trans women or not. Where is my safety in that regard. We don't have equal civil rights and freedoms," she said, fighting tears.
"That to me is very frightening because there is going to be a lot of interpretations and how we're going to navigate in society and where is this going?"
