Emmerdale 'seals who gets framed for Liam's attack' as he's left for dead

Send Push

There were yet more brutal scenes on on Friday night as a character was attacked and left for dead.

Liam Cavanagh was hit over the head and left unconscious at the allotment, with it seemingly a case of mistaken identity. John Sugden slammed a piece of wood over Liam's head, sending him crashing to the floor.

The killer then fled the scene and left him there, while Mackenzie Boyd soon came across an injured Liam and tried to help him. John then feigned innocence when he heard from Chas Dingle that Liam had been attacked, as she and Aaron asked him to help.

As the medic asked him what happened and checked him over, he kept quiet on the fact he was the culprit. Mack had been his intended victim it seems, with Mack there to help Liam out.

John had vowed to "put Mack out of his misery" in the previous episode, wanting revenge after he meddled in his relationship with Aaron. But his plan to possibly kill Mack took a turn when it was poor Liam who got hurt.

Liam didn't remember anything about his attack and refused to be checked over at the hospital. He claimed he was hit from behind, which he was, so he did not see anyone around or the person that did it.

Mack seemed suspicious of John with him eager to speak to Aaron alone about something. He also noted "hero" John was there to conveniently save the day yet again, so has he realised he was behind it?

John kept his cool though, with Chas, Liam and Aaron all grateful for his assistance. Liam will report the incident to the police, after he believes his ex Ella Forster might be to blame.

It was actually John that put this idea in his head, as he asked about who might have attacked him. As Liam wondered why anyone would have hurt him, it was John that questioned whether Ella did it.

With Liam asking John whether he really thought she was the culprit, he kept pushing this story. Spoilers have revealed that Ella will be questioned by police over the attack as a result, while this will happen offscreen following her recent exit.

But Liam and Chas are concerned when PC Swirling pays them a visit and confirms Ella did not hurt Liam and was nowhere near the village that day. He tells them she had a tight alibi that rules her out as his attacker, leaving them wondering who did hit him and why.

Off the back of this, someone else could be framed by John as he prepares to cover his tracks. Once he hears about Ella he will no doubt need someone else to accuse, so will this pave the way for his revenge against Mack?

Given Mack was at the scene, might John set him up and ensure he takes the fall for the assault? He would have to find the right motive or evidence, but perhaps this will allow John to get rid of Mack like he plans to.
