Embracing can be an overwhelming process, but not for Kate Rose Morgan. Having amassed more than one million followers across and , Kate isn’t one to shy away from colour and social media users will know her for her pastel decor and love of pink.
But while she may be surrounded by lots of colour, there was a time when her walls were a lot more plain. After moving into her home, Kate wasn’t able to for the first year, meaning she spent months upon months staring at blank white walls.
“It gave me time to kind of really look at the room and think about things, like where the light comes in and how the room feels. I could just sit with it in its bare bones before I started doing anything with it,” she tells the .
“But because it was all plain, it was actually a good place to start because then I could really see where my vision was going to go. That being said, I can understand why it is overwhelming for lots of people and in that case I just say sit in the room and think about how you want it to feel. Learn more about the room and that space and just think.”

Having previously worked as a hairdresser, Kate is no stranger to embracing colour in other areas of her life. This, she says, has made it easier to be brave enough to turn her home into a pastel coloured paradise.
“I had all the hair colours of the rainbow and I used to love it. In hairdressing there were quite a lot of flamboyant people that I worked with and I think I found my love of colour then. But even as a kid, I really liked pink and I liked colour,” she explains.
“In my home, I’ve always changed styles. I swap and change the colours I use. I’ve never stuck to one thing, though the only thing I do stick with is pink, so who knows what it might look like in a couple of years? I’m always changing, but it will always be colourful.”
As a result, Kate reveals she sometimes forgets that her choice of decor may seem a bit ‘unusual’ to other people. From her pretty pink kitchen to her lovely lilac staircase, Kate’s home is .
“It's a different reaction every time I open the front door and I get a different postie or delivery driver. I forget that my house is probably a little bit different to everybody else's,” she says.

She adds: “It should be that you can fall in love with a colour and then be able to use that colour and not worry about what anyone else thinks as long as you enjoy it. I think that's half the battle. People are worried about using colour because, first of all, they've never had it and, secondly, they're worried about people they’re silly, but they won’t.”
As part of her new book Dopamine Décor, Kate has shared her top tips on how we can all bring more colour into our home. As part of the practical guide, readers will be able to find their colour confidence, discover which colours resonate with them and learn how to make different shades work in any room, no matter the budget or DIY skills they have.
“My biggest tip is to just trust the process. Every single project I've done, I've always had a wobble halfway where I’ve thought, what have I done? But every time I bring in accessories, it completes it perfectly. The last bit where you dress the room is where it all starts to come together," Kate explains.
“If it is really, really bad then look at it as being a fun process where the outcome wasn’t for you and just start again. Panting can be pricey, but just have fun with it and have your home as your canvas.”
