A seasoned mechanic named Andy, has simplified the search for the perfect diesel truck by highlighting the unique advantages of each major US brand's engine, specifically Duramax, Power Stroke and Dodge Ram's Cummins.

Andy emphasises that understanding the purpose of the truck is pivotal, regardless of the brand chosen. He expressed this insight in a video for Royalty Auto Service (@royaltyautoservice), stating: "People that daily [drive them [diesel trucks] and aren't towing with them, it's a little bit different.

"So, you're not putting them through the paces of what they're designed for. Believe it or not, I usually see those to have the most amount of issues."

He strongly advises against purchasing a diesel truck without intending to utilise its full capabilities, describing it as a "waste of money" due to the strain on the emission control system from such a driving style.

Andy also shared: "Within the last 10 years, I'd say all three [big diesel engine brands] are pretty equal."

He confessed a personal bias towards the Duramax, having worked as a transmission technician at a General Motors dealership for an extended period.

In his experience, Andy has never encountered an instance where the Allison transmission in a GM diesel truck failed for reasons other than neglect.

This mechanic concluded by praising Ford, saying: "I don't think anybody rides better than Ford."

He added: "If Chevy had the same ride quality Ford did, that truck would be the best on the market."

Andy highlighted the value of Cummins for motorists, pointing out he reckons they're significantly cheaper to operate, own, and maintain.

The seasoned mechanic noted that although Cummins diesel engines don't currently equal Duramax or Power Stroke in power, they are gradually making advancements.
