Although Easter is taking place this weekend, and have been on the shelves for quite some time now.In fact, back in February, I wrote a I spotted in .

I was stunned at the time to discover the Dairy Milk and White Marble Ultimate Easter Egg and the Mini Eggs Inclusions Ultimate Easter Egg carried a hefty £15.50 tag that had me doing a double-take. And it seems two months on, the eggs aren't exactly flying off the shelves as a trip to the supermarket today (April 18) in one of its Portsmouth stores saw piles of the eggs still available – and the price now slashed down to £11.75.

This isn't the first reduction either, with the label showing the eggs have previously been slashed down to £12.50.

After I shared the news of the price of the eggs on X at the time, many people were astounded by the price, as one person declared: "That is disgusting."

Another chimed in: "That's definitely not worth 15.00," while a third added: "Slap the word 'ultimate' on the packaging and you can charge an extra tenner."

When contacted, a spokesperson from Mondelēz International, who makes Cadbury products, said at the time: "We understand the economic pressures that consumers continue to face and raising prices is a last resort for our business. However, as a food producer, we are continuing to experience significantly higher input costs across our supply chain, with ingredients such as cocoa and dairy, which are widely used in our products, costing far more than they have done previously.

"Meanwhile, other costs like energy and transport also remain high. This means that our products continue to be much more expensive to make and while we have absorbed these costs where possible, we still face considerable challenges."

They further explained: "As a result, we are having to make some carefully considered list price increases across parts of our Easter range so that we can continue to provide consumers with the brands they love, without compromising on the great taste and quality they expect."

A spokesperson for Sainsbury's also added: "We want to offer our customers the best possible choice, quality and value. We offer a selection of Easter products at a range of price points this year, with chocolate egg prices starting from £1.50."

Cadbury describes the Milk and White Marble Ultimate Easter Egg as a "creamy marbled Cadbury dairy milk and Cadbury white chocolate Easter egg with individually wrapped chunks". Inside the 380g package, you'll find one hollow egg alongside a few bars of white and milk chocolate.

Meanwhile, The Mini Eggs Inclusions Ultimate Easter Egg also features one hollow milk chocolate egg adorned with sugar-coated milk chocolate candies (10%) and a single bag of solid milk chocolate eggs encased in a crisp sugar shell.

These compare to the standard Cadbury Mini Eggs Chocolate Easter egg, weighing 193g, retails for a mere £4 at Sainsbury's, and the larger XL variant, tipping the scales at 232g, which is priced at £6. Meanwhile, the small Dairy Milk Giant Buttons Easter egg, each 96g, is priced at £1.75.
