In today's digital age, everything from booking hotels to train tickets has become easier—but it comes with its own risks. Cybercriminals are increasingly targeting unsuspecting users through fake websites and phishing scams. The latest case comes from Ayodhya, where even a BJP leader wasn’t spared from a hotel booking scam.

🧾 What Happened?

Delhi BJP leader and former MLA Vijay Jolly recently reported that he was cheated of thousands of rupees while trying to book accommodation in Ayodhya. His NGO, Delhi Study Group, is organizing a group visit of around 100 people for the Ram Mandir Jalabhishek event on April 23, 2025.

While arranging rooms, he fell victim to a fake hotel booking website, created in the name of a reputed dharamshala in Ayodhya. The cybercriminals tricked him into transferring money for fake reservations. He has lodged an official complaint with the Cyber Crime Unit of Delhi Police.

🧠 Cyber Criminals Are Getting Smarter

This scam is just one of many in the growing list of cyber frauds, including:

  • Digital Arrest Fraud

  • Phishing Links

  • Fake Job Offers

  • Lottery/Lucky Draw Scams

Cybercriminals are constantly evolving their tactics, making it crucial for users to stay a step ahead.

🔐 How to Protect Yourself From Online Booking Frauds
  • Never share your OTP, bank account details, or passwords with strangers.

  • Only use verified, official websites or apps for bookings. Double-check the website address (URL) before entering any personal information.

  • If you get a call or message asking for payment, verify the source thoroughly.

  • Look for red flags like incorrect spellings or unusual URLs in links—these are often signs of phishing.

  • If you fall victim to any cyber fraud, report it immediately at or visit your nearest police station.

  • 📌 Bottom Line: Awareness is Your Best Defence

As our lives become more digital, the risks also increase. It’s important to stay alert and informed. Simple steps like verifying a website or not sharing sensitive information can save you from huge losses. Stay smart, stay secure—and don’t let a scammer turn your pilgrimage into a problem.
