A major revelation has emerged in the high-profile arrest of Jamaluddin alias Changur Baba and his associate Neetu Rohra alias Nasreen in Uttar Pradesh. The duo, arrested by the UP ATS on charges of illegal religious conversion and anti-national activities, is now at the center of a sensational investigation that spans across state and international borders.
Over 1,500 Hindu Girls Converted, ATS Alleges
According to investigators, Changur Baba is believed to have orchestrated the illegal conversion of more than 1,500 Hindu girls. Authorities suspect a disproportionately high number of women among his followers. The ATS is now tracing individuals who may have been manipulated or coerced into conversion as part of this organized network.
From Mumbai’s Dargahs to Gulf-Backed Networks
Before establishing his base in Balrampur district, UP, Changur Baba reportedly operated in Maharashtra, selling rings outside a dargah in Mumbai. Investigators claim he eventually connected with overseas groups, including some in Gulf nations, that are allegedly involved in religious conversions. He then expanded his activities to Balrampur and neighboring districts, using religious programs to recruit non-Muslims for conversion.
Agenda to Alter Local Demographics
The investigation suggests a long-term goal to alter the religious demographics of eastern UP districts. Two years ago, a separate case was filed against some of Baba’s relatives in Azamgarh for running similar illegal conversion operations. According to STF sources, certain local police and intelligence officials may have colluded with Baba in exchange for bribes.
Seven-Day ATS Remand Granted, NIA and IB to Join Interrogation
A local court has granted seven-day custody of Changur Baba and Nasreen to the ATS. The remand begins today, during which officials from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and National Investigation Agency (NIA) are expected to join the questioning to dig deeper into the extent and backing of the alleged racket.
The case continues to spark outrage and political reactions, given its scale and the international linkages being unearthed.
