Farooq Abdullah Calls for Peace with Pakistan After Deadly Gulmarg Attack

National Conference President Farooq Abdullah has urged Pakistan to pursue a path of friendship following a terror attack in Gulmarg that resulted in the deaths of five individuals, including Indian Army soldiers. Abdullah stated that such violent incidents would persist in Jammu and Kashmir unless a “proper solution” was reached and Pakistan altered its behavior.

He expressed concern, saying, "We are not going to become a part of Pakistan. So, why are they doing this? To disrupt our future? To make us poorer? They should look towards their country and the issues out there. They are getting ruined themselves but are ruining us as well. If they don't find a way, the future will be very difficult."

Abdullah warned that the violence must stop to avoid further problems and called for friendship between India and Pakistan. He also extended condolences to the families of the victims and those injured in various attacks, emphasizing, “This will keep going on in the state and it won't stop until we find a proper solution for this. We all know from where it comes. I have been seeing it for 30 years—innocents are killed."

Regarding Pakistan's possible dissatisfaction with the high voter turnout in the recent assembly elections, Abdullah expressed uncertainty about the reasons but underscored the importance of the new assembly in serving the people. He voiced hope that the Central Government would restore full statehood to improve governance, stating, "People voted in the assembly polls, and now the assembly will work for the people. We hope the Centre grants full statehood so that the government can work for the people."

On the relationship between Jammu and Kashmir and the Centre, Abdullah noted, "When I was the chief minister, I used to say this every time that coordination is a good thing because everything is with them." The attack has sparked discussions about the future of peace and security in the region, with leaders advocating for constructive dialogue and cooperation.
