Anna Kendrick has dashed the hopes of fans who were hoping she would direct Pitch Perfect 4, following a hint from a fellow cast member that a sequel might be in the pipeline.
The 39 year old actress and director addressed the rumours during an interview to promote her latest Netflix thriller, Woman of the Hour, which is set to premiere on October 18.
Despite gaining fame through her role in the Twilight saga alongside Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, Kendrick is best known for her leading role in the musical sensation, Pitch Perfect. In the series, she starred alongside Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow and Anna Camp.
Since the release of Pitch Perfect 3 in 2017, fans have been eagerly awaiting a fourth instalment. Earlier this year, Wilson sparked excitement among fans by suggesting that a fourth film was being planned.
In April 2024, she stated: "I would love Pitch Perfect [4] to be made. I believe they have a script in development."
This news sent movie buffs into a frenzy, with many advocating for Kendrick to take the director's chair. However, the actress has now responded to these hopes, reports .
In an interview with E! News, when asked to "Blink twice if [you're] gonna direct Pitch Perfect 4."
She replied: "Oh my god. I will keep my eyes wide open and say that when you have known people for that long, they have no interest in you being in charge of anything."
"Believe me, they have seen me. I mean, you know, that first movie we were doing dollar shots in whatever local dive bar so there's no way that they would take any direction from me and I love that."
Anna Kendrick has previously sparked excitement over a possible get-together, gushing in an interview with People regarding a potential fourth installment: "Oh, my God, I would love that."
The cast seems enthusiastic about the next installment, yet details regarding the storyline or a release date remain under wraps.
Nonetheless, camaraderie among the stars appears strong, exemplified by Kendrick recently divulging that she got some directorial tips from Brittany Snow during the shoot for Woman of the Hour.
Since its launch in 2012, Pitch Perfect quickly amassed a fervent fanbase and reeled in $115 million across the globe. The sequel surged ahead with box office takings of $287.5 million internationally, while the trilogy capper raked in $185.4 million.
Woman of the Hour is available to stream on Netflix from October 18
