If you're not lucky enough to have a tumble dryer at home, you'll know what a nightmare it can be on laundry day. When the weather starts to get that bit colder, it seems like it can take an age to dry your clothes, especially if you're yet to turn the heating on.
Drying clothes fast is in everyone's best interest, because wet laundry can contribute to problems like damp and mould if there isn't enough ventilation. However, there's a quick task you can do before hanging your clothes up that can help to speed things along. The laundry experts at Lenor have issued tips that will help you master the art of drying clothes inside, even if you don't have a dryer.
They said: "The cold, damp winter months can make drying clothes in winter a challenge, particularly when you don't have a tumble dryer. In summer drying clothes is much easier as your homes and garden are naturally warmer so clothes can air dry quickly. But drying clothes indoors in the winter can take up a lot of room and a lot of time."
Unfortunately, it's still a task that needs to be done regardless of the time of year. But one tip will help your clothes smell 'as good and fresh as new' without that unpleasant musty odour.
According to the experts, all you need to do is give them a quick shake around when you take them out of the washing machine. When paired with an additional spin cycle, this is a great way to speed up the drying process.
The experts said: "Give laundry a good spin and an extra shake when removing it from the washing machine to extract surplus water and damp.
"Make sure you check your laundry's care labels before you spin them, as some clothes will be too delicate."
Another tip that you've got to consider when drying clothes inside is making sure your hang them up immediately after washing. Leaving them to sit in the machine or laundry basket is a sure-fire way to make them smell like mould, and if you don't have too much space, you can use your curtain rod as extra storage.
If you're using a clothes airer, try to position this near an open window or somewhere with adequate ventilation. Make sure the items are evenly spaced, not all on top of each other, and take the time to rotate them every few hours to ensure they dry faster.
