Payne rose to fame with the formation of One Direction on the X Factor, having first auditioned for the show in 2008. Despite an initial setback, he returned to audition for the 2010 series, which led to him joining forces with Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik, propelling them to global stardom as one of the most successful boy bands in history.

The ex-One Direction heartthrob, enjoying a getaway in Buenos Aires with his partner Kate Cassidy, tragically fell from the third floor of a hotel, as per reports. La Nacion revealed that the 31 year old took a fatal plunge from an establishment in the affluent Palermo district.

A body was discovered in the hotel's inner courtyard, prompting the hotel manager to summon the authorities. It is suspected that Liam plummeted approximately 13 or 14 metres, sustaining "very serious injuries incompatible with life."

The head of the local ambulance service disclosed to TN: "At 17.04 through the 911 integrated public safety system, we were alerted of a person who was in an internal courtyard of the management of a south house hotel."

He continued: "At 17.11 a SAME team arrived and verified the death of this man and later we found out that he was a singer in a musical group. Unfortunately, he had injuries that were incompatible with life, as a result of his fall, so we had to confirm his death, there was no possibility of resuscitation."

Liam has been sharing his Argentine adventures on social media in recent weeks, including attending a concert by Niall, his former bandmate. At just 16, Liam was thrust into the limelight, joining what would become the world's most famous boyband.
