The former One Direction star has tragically died whilst on holiday in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Police have confirmed that the 31-year-old star was found dead after he had fallen from the third floor of a hotel in the capital Buenos Aires on Wednesday evening.
Payne posted about being in Argentina on Snapchat shortly before his death, sharing videos from his time there with girlfriend Kate Cassidy.
His last post showed the two together, writing in one post, "Happy I got some time away" and in another he said "Lovely day in Argentina".
However, after chatting in videos about Cassidy returning to Florida, she posted two days ago about being "back in the sunshine state", suggesting that the former One Direction stars' photos were a few days old.
Sources reportedly told the outlet he was acting "erratic" in the hotel lobby earlier in the day and smashed his laptop.
The singer was in Buenos Aires to attend the concert of former One Direction bandmate Niall Horan, whose concert he was seen dancing at two weeks ago.
Earlier this month, Payne posted a Snapchat about going to see Horan: "It's been a while since me and Niall have spoken. We've got a lot to talk about and I would like to square up a couple of things with the boy. No bad vibes or nothing like that but we just need to talk."
Payne skyrocketed to fame with his former band One Direction, established during their stint on the X Factor.
He first auditioned for the ITV competition in 2008 but gained success with a second chance at the contest in 2010.
After he joined forces with Niall, Harry, Louis, and Zayn, the teenagers merged to become one of the most successful boy bands in music history.
He was aged just 16 when he shot into the limelight.
