Appearing on the , Martin explained: "I mean the frustration here is, I will try and explain to people what scams are, but the scammers use me. So, we have to be careful when it's me saving you from scams. Between me and Elon Musk, I think we are in 70% of scam adverts where they are trying to get people to steal their money.
"So, you have to be very careful with anything with me in. I'm not necessarily the person trying to save you if the scammers are using me and using a false endorsement."
cut in as she asked: "But we know why that is, don't we Martin?" She added: "It's because you are regularly voted the most trusted face, you are a consumer champion and you are the people's shadow Chancellor. People know when you are associated with something financial, they instantly go 'well, if Martin says this is the case, it must be true'.
"And, as you say, these scams are scams using and harnessing your reputation, to your detriment, actually, and I know that's why it makes you so angry. Because, when people say 'but Martin you told me to do it,' you're like 'no I didn't!'"
Martin said that it is "desperately upsetting" when people use his identity to scam others into losing hundreds of thousands of pounds. He added: "I spent my life trying to campaign to make people better with their finances and protect vulnerable people and it is absolutely devastating."
Explaining how scammers are currently targeting WASPI women, Martin shared: "You have, right now, pictures of accepting that there is compensation and there's a Martin Lewis WASPI compensation calculator. Both completely fake and nothing to do with me."
He added that the compensation currently "does not exist" and "it is not happening at the moment". While the scams are not going to be taking anyone's money, the Money Saving Expert founder advised that they will be after your data and personal information instead, "so that they can scam and target you in many other ways".
