
A popular in the UK boasts around 200 days of sunshine every year. It has been praised as the "Caribbean of the UK" for its warm weather and clear blue seas.
Eastbourne, in East Sussex, is loved by for it's stunning beach, chalk cliffs and seaside attractions. According to , the town also benefits from around 1,892 hours of sunshine each year. This is around 500 hours more than the UK average.
As reported by the , Eastbourne also holds the UK record for the most amount of sunshine in a month. In July 1911, it saw 383.9 hours of sun. The record has led to Eastbourne being nicknamed "The Sunshine Coast".
Popular tourist activities in Eastbourne include walking along the iconic Beachy Head cliffs, exploring the Seven Sisters coastline, and enjoying acitivities at Eastbourne Pier. There is also the Towner Art Gallery, the Devonshire Park Theatre and the Eastbourne Miniature Steam Railway to visit.
Eastbourne has been the backdrop for a number of films and TV shows over the years. It was used for the iconic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang scene where the car drives into the air.
The town, which has a population of just over 100,000, was used to film the Quidditch World Cup scene in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It also featured in James Bond: The Living Daylights.
The Sussex Film Office says: "Eastbourne is a large town and seaside resort in East Sussex, less than 50 miles from the M25 and close to Brighton. Eastbourne has a wide variety of locations such as Victorian promenades, a 19th Century Pier, Europe's largest man-made harbour, urban and industrial landscapes. Also surrounded by open countryside with breath-taking views with the highest chalk sea cliff in the UK."
Some people on social media have likened the town to the Caribbean. Ed Shear wrote on X: "Cannot believe how beautiful our coast is in England. Out paddleboarding yesterday and it felt like the Caribbean."
The Green Pen Team shared a picture of the sunset over Eastbourne and wrote: "Pffft who needs the Caribbean?"
A number of other tourists have taken to TripAdvisor to praise Eastbourne. They agreed that the area boasts amazing sea views and benefits from a range of hotels and shops.
Ms_NVS said: "An excellent place to get away for a quiet weekend from the city. Lots of hotels, B&B's, as well as dining places.
If you are there - make sure you go to Fusciardis - a little cafe on the seafront specializing in Italian ice cream! Fantastic sundaes!"
UKNorseman added: "Eastbourne is probably the little sister to Brighton, which is only about 30 minutes drive away to the west. This town has a splendid promenade where you can take a stroll anytime.
"Abundance of shops are mainly in the centre, not far from the railway station. Majority of the hotels and restaurants are to be found nearer the sea front. However, you will have to travel to Brighton if you are after a hectic nightlife scene, and also the choice of different international gastronomic dishes.
"It is worth taking a walk westwards towards Beachy Head, distance 4 - 5 miles. This is a natural beauty spot about 1 1/4 hours walk away. Here you have marvellous views of the Channel."
Roxwell wrote: "I have visited Eastbourne several times and as soon as I walk on to the sea front I am struck by how clean and attractive it is, especially with the beautiful carpet gardens near the pier, and the fact that there are no shops or amusements at all on the promenade. The town has five theatres, which must be unusual these days, and plenty going on."
