right-hand man in the squad, Anthony Barry, once dramatically quit after a single training session.

The ex- and boss has taken over from as the head of the Three Lions, penning an 18-month contract. , acting as interim manager, will manage the upcoming Nations League fixtures against Ireland and Greece in November before Tuchel takes charge on January 1.

Barry, a coach with a sterling reputation, served as Tuchel's aide at both Bayern and Chelsea. His international coaching credentials are impressive, having worked under Roberto Martinez for Belgium and Portugal.

Barry's playing career was largely in the lower leagues, including two stints at Wrexham, but his initial tenure there ended almost as soon as it began. Signed by then-manager Dean Saunders in 2010 when Wrexham were competing in the National League, Barry's stay was short-lived.

Saunders, the former Welsh forward, shared on talkSPORT that Barry requested to leave after just one training session due to a more enticing offer from another club. Saunders recounted: "He told me, 'Fleetwood have offered me double the money'. I said, 'Well, it's too late, you've signed for us now'."

"He said, 'Yeah but gaffer, come on, I can't turn that down'. I said, 'No, you've signed for us'. There had been back page headlines with [Barrie] the shirt on and everything.

"I couldn't believe it. I sat there for a couple of days and thought, 'If you don't want to be here, if you want to be somewhere else, you might as well go'. Then he went to Fleetwood.

"The next time I saw him, he was on the bench at Chelsea. I was thinking, 'What's going on there? ' Apparently he met on a coaching course, ended up helping Frank and working his way up.

"That is a story of how you can get on, from the bottom to Bayern Munich and he's now England assistant manager. Amazing. A nice lad as well, by the way."

Barry, 38, did indeed play for Wrexham towards the end of his career before embarking on a successful coaching journey. Tuchel was taken with Barry at Chelsea and the two forged a strong bond during their Champions League-winning stint.

Tuchel was dismissed by Chelsea in September 2022 but made a comeback for Barry when he took over at Bayern the following year. England will be their third professional collaboration.
