Just before the grand finale of The Celebrity Traitors, the BBC gave fans a tantalising glimpse of the second series of The Night Manager. Almost a decade after Tom Hiddleston enthralled an audience of 10 million as ex-British intelligence operative, Jonathan Pine, he's making a comeback. After a long wait for news about the second season, viewers have finally been given a sneak preview of what lies ahead for Jonathan.
In the brief 30-second snippet, we see Jonathan in the MI6 headquarters being told: "A lot of intelligence officers come through this room. They sit there and they smile, just like you. The ones I really worry about say nothing. And then one day, they explode. Tell me who you really are."
Jonathan simply looks up and replies: "I am the man who will not explode."
The teaser also includes scenes of Jonathan with tape over his mouth, speeding through the streets on a motorbike, and sprinting down a corridor with a building exploding behind him, reports The Mirror.
Although it's only a short teaser, it certainly suggests that the new season will keep viewers gripped.
The synopsis for the second series reveals: "Jonathan Pine thought he'd buried his past. Now living as Alex Goodwin - a low-level MI6 officer running a quiet surveillance unit in London - his life is comfortingly uneventful.
"Then one night a chance sighting of an old Roper mercenary prompts a call to action and leads Pine to a violent encounter with a new player: Colombian businessman Teddy Dos Santos.
"On this perilous new journey, Pine encounters Roxana Bolanos, a businesswoman who reluctantly assists him in penetrating Teddy's Colombian arms operation. Once in Colombia, Pine finds himself deeply embroiled in a lethal plot involving arms and the training of a guerrilla army.
"As allegiances fracture, Pine is in a race against time to uncover a conspiracy aimed at destabilising a nation. With treachery lurking at every corner, he must determine whose trust he needs to win and how far he's prepared to go before it's too late."
Returning to the cast are Olivia Colman as Angela Burr, Alistair Petrie as Sandy Langbourne, Douglas Hodge as Rex Mayhew, Michael Nardone as Frisky, and Noah Jupe as Daniel Roper.
New additions to the cast include Diego Calva, Camila Morrone, Indira Varma, Paul Chahidi and Hayley Squires.
The series was shot across the UK, Spain, Colombia and France, and will make its debut on BBC One in the UK.
