Brooklyn Rapper Ka Dies At 52, Tributes Pour In

Brooklyn rapper Ka died on Saturday at the age of 52. The news of the demise was shared on his official Instagram 'brownsvilleka'. The post said Ka, Kaseem Ryan, "died unexpectedly" in New York City. Cause of death has not been disclosed."We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Kaseem Ryan (1972-2024), the rapper and producer known as Ka, who died unexpectedly in New York City on Oct. 12, at the age of 52. Born and raised in Brownsville, Brooklyn, Ka lived a life of service — to his city, to his community, and to his music," the statement shared to his Instagram handle read."As a 20-year veteran of the New York City Fire Department, he put his life on the line to protect his fellow citizens. Ka rose to the rank of FDNY captain and was a first responder on September 11, 2001 during the attacks on the World Trade Center. He leaves an extraordinary legacy as a recording artist, including 11 remarkable self-released solo albums. Ka is survived by his wife, mother and sister. We kindly ask that the privacy of Ka’s family and loved ones be respected as they grieve this incalculable loss."The rapper is survived by his wife Mimi Valdes, his mother, and his sister.After the news of his demise was shared, several of his fans took to social media to pay tributes."RIP Ka, rap's greatest minimalist, Brownsville's finest, inimitably dedicated himself to his city & craft. The master of quiet rage, writing zen koans with unremitting soul & passion. Pain, grief & wisdom in every bar. An artist as pure & real as anyone who ever spit cold facts," one person wrote on X.

Another wrote, "Hip-hop has lost one of the best lyricists to grace a microphone today, rest in peace Ka Honour Killed the Samurai and Descendants of Cain are special records."
