'Opportunity Agenda For Black Men': All About Kamala Harris' New Economic Plan

Send Push

Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday unveiled a comprehensive plan to boost economic opportunities for Black men, addressing concerns over low enthusiasm among a critical Democratic voting bloc. Forgiveable loans for Black business owners, increased apprenticeship programs, and an emphasis on health concerns like sickle cell disease—which disproportionately impacts African American men—are all part of the "Opportunity Agenda for Black Men." Additionally, Harris reaffirmed her support for the federal legalization of marijuana, highlighting the significance of integrating Black males into the developing cannabis sector. Legalization, according to her, would do away with long-standing legal obstacles for Black males, who have historically been subjected to disproportionately harsh penalties and police because of their marijuana usage. Better bitcoin regulations are another component of her agenda, which aims to safeguard Black investors and others using digital assets. In the crucial battleground state of Erie, Pennsylvania, where she met with Black males from the community at LegendErie Records and Coffee House, a Black-owned company, Harris unveiled her program. Later, during a campaign event, she criticized her rival, former President Donald Trump, for remarks he had made recently about using the armed forces to neutralize any threats on election day. The goal of Harris' program is to offset reported declines in Black men's support, which may affect her prospects of defeating Trump in the election. Harris may encounter difficulties, according to recent surveys, as support for the Democratic Party declines among African American men who vote. Barack Obama, the former president, also voiced worry, pointing out that some Black males would have second thoughts about supporting a female president.Under the vice president's plan, Black entrepreneurs would be eligible for up to a million dollars in loans, which would help the community's economy flourish and create jobs. The campaign's proposal highlights a larger plan to address the structural injustices Black males experience and grant equitable access to the cannabis sector. Harris urged action on cryptocurrencies as well, emphasizing the need to protect Black investors from the risks associated with the erratic digital market. Harris' position on legalizing marijuana is in opposition to the present policies of the Biden administration, which prioritize the erasure of prior marijuana convictions above full legalization. Her goal is to decriminalize marijuana in conjunction with Congress so that it may be regulated at the federal level.
