Agra police bust IPL betting racket, 9 held

AGRA: Agra police have arrested nine individuals in Jagdishpura police station area of Agra's Manas Nagar for allegedly engaging in betting activities during an ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) match.

Agra (City) deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Sonam Kumar said, "Police acted on intelligence about illegal betting activities at a cafe during the KKR vs Mumbai Indians match on Monday evening."

The operation, led by ACP Vinayak Bhosale and Mayank Tiwari, ended with the seizure of over Rs 1 lakh, an SUV, 11 mobile phones, and other items from the suspects, she added.

The accused were identified as 30-year-old Gautam Dhakad, the cafe owner, Babloo Singh, Dori Lal, Har Swarup Dhakad, Vijendra Singh, Nikhil Singh, Vijay Singh, Nitin Sharma, and Rakesh Sharma. Following their arrests, the police sealed the cafe.

Kumar added, "A case has been registered against all the accused under BNS section 112(2) (Organised Crime), 270 (Public Nuisance), and relevant sections of the UP Public Gambling Act."
