AGRA: After the passage of the Waqf Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha, police across West Uttar Pradesh were on high alert today due to Friday prayers. According to officials, flag marches were conducted in Aligarh, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Saharanpur, and Agra.

Sensitive areas were monitored through drone cameras across the region. Additionally, police action has been taken against those spreading rumours on social media in Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, and Shamli.

More than two dozen people have been served preventive notices, stating that they could be arrested under Section 151 CrPC in case of any trouble.

Since the 2013 violence during the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests, Muzaffarnagar is considered a sensitive district in the state. The areas previously affected by violence are being considered highly sensitive, with increased vigilance.

Saharanpur range commissioner Atal Kumar Rai and DIG Ajay Sahani, who arrived in Muzaffarnagar on Friday, also conducted a flag march. DIG Sahani informed that action has been taken against those spreading rumours on social media in all three districts of the Saharanpur division.

DIG Sahani said that the police and administration were fully prepared, considering the passage of the Waqf Board Bill and Friday prayers. Prayers concluded peacefully at several places.

He mentioned that all senior officials, including Muzaffarnagar's DM Umesh Mishra and SSP Abhishek Singh, are patrolling the area and interacting with locals, while adequate police forces, PAC, and other personnel were deployed to ensure safety.

A dedicated social media monitoring team is working around the clock, and senior officials are constantly reviewing the situation. Conversations have also been held with religious leaders and community members to maintain peace.
