Bhubaneswar: Chandua, the famous applique handicraft of Pipili, will be promoted on a larger scale while the region will be developed as a tourist hotspot, chief minister Mohan Majhi said. He announced plans for an eco-tourism area near Pipili toll plaza and assured that there will be no shortage of funds for the Pipili Chandua project and eco-tourism initiatives.
The chief minister also announced the expansion of the Uttarayani cold storage into a larger facility to benefit local farmers. The CM made the announcements while attending a Kumar Utsav celebration event on Tuesday.
Delang-Pipili region is not only known for its Chandua craft but also for its captivating Veer Naga dance and traditional fairs like Harirajpur, Balanga and Ghoradia’s Dayanachori, the largest village fair in Odisha.
“Our govt will take steps to support local artisans and craftsmen as the Pipili artisans are creating beautiful Chandua, which are even favoured by Lord Jagannath. We will ensure a larger market for their crafts and the promotion of their skills,” Majhi said.
He added that tourism development plans for the region included the development of an eco-tourism area near Pipili toll plaza, the development of Beraboi Gandhi Smriti Peeth and special attention to the famous Bishwanath temple.
During the event, the chief minister visited the handicraft exhibition at the pallishree mela and honoured individuals for their notable achievements in various fields.
Pipili MLA Ashrit Pattnayak, Digapahandi MLA Siddhant Mohapatra, Satyabadi MLA Om Prakash Mishra and former Brahmagiri MLA Lalitendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra also addressed the gathering, highlighting the formation of a popular govt under Majhi's leadership.
