Vadodara: A 17-year-old girl studying at a private university died after being hit by a pick-up van on the Waghodia bypass on Tuesday morning. The deceased, identified as Maitri Shah, was on her way to the university when the van struck her. The driver fled the scene after the incident.
According to police, Shah, a computer engineering student, was crossing the bypass when the van approached from the side and hit her. CCTV footage from the area captured the moment of the accident. She sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot.
Following the incident, a large crowd gathered at the site, resulting in a brief traffic jam on the bypass.
Shah's father is an engineer employed with a multinational company in the city. After her body was taken to SSG Hospital, Shah's family, in a noble gesture, decided to donate her eyes.
In a separate fatal accident near Chamra village in Padra taluka, three residents of Mujpur village died after a tractor rammed into their two-wheeler. All three victims were travelling on the motorcycle when they were mowed down.
