JAISALMER: Following escalation of tensions along the Indo-Pak border, the Indian Armed Forces successfully countered a swarm drone attack on Jaisalmer district launched by Pakistan Thursday night. The assault, which began at 9pm, targeted the air force base and military installations in Jaisalmer, as well as the Pokhran military station and the BSF campus in Ramgarh.
It was a scene of chaos as drones from the Pakistani side attempted to breach Indian airspace. The sound of explosions reverberated throughout the region, prompting fear and panic among residents. Local authorities had previously declared a blackout, urging citizens to stay indoors and turn off all lights as a precaution.
Despite the alarming situation, the Indian military displayed remarkable skill and preparedness, deploying air defense and anti-drone systems that effectively intercepted and destroyed the incoming threats. The aerial assault continued until midnight in Jaisalmer, with subsequent attempts at 4am targeting the Ramgarh area.
In Jaisalmer, debris from the downed drones fell in various locations, including a substantial piece of ammunition that landed near a residential area in the Bhil settlement of Kishanghat, around 5-km from the district headquarters. Civil defense and police teams responded quickly, coordinating with the army's bomb disposal squad to safely dispose of the ammunition under tight security.
District collector Pratap Singh confirmed that no damage was reported to the city, air force base, or military stations due to the drone attacks. Barmer collector Tina Dabi issued a complete blackout and red alert, advising residents to remain indoors as sirens blared throughout the night.
The Indian air defense systems thwarted additional drone and missile attempts targeting 15 other locations, including Uttarlai in Barmer. The BSF and other security agencies remain on high alert, with increased patrols along the border.
Military officials emphasised the importance of swift action and readiness in addressing such threats, with a statement highlighting the effectiveness of the S400 defense system in neutralizing the aerial attacks. People expressed their gratitude to the Indian military for its efforts in safeguarding the region.
