LUDHIANA: Two labourers died after a factory wall collapsed during a wind and dust storm in Nanak Pura, Daresi area on Saturday night.
Niranjan (35) and Ram Bhajan (40), both from Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, were delivering and collecting goods at a dyeing factory when the accident happened. Niranjan died on the spot, while Ram Bhajan died later in hospital.
Sub Inspector Balwinder Singh, SHO of Daresi police station, said the two were leaving the factory when a wire got caught on their vehicle, forcing them to stop. While talking to local residents about the damage, the fourth-floor wall of the factory suddenly collapsed, injuring both men.
“The victims lived alone in Ludhiana. Their families in Uttar Pradesh have been informed. The bodies are at Ludhiana Civil Hospital’s mortuary. Police will record statements from family members when they arrive before proceeding further,” Singh added.
Local resident Jaspal Singh raised concerns about unsafe multi-storey factories operating in Nanak Nagar, saying authorities had been warned repeatedly but no action had been taken.
