Noida: A day after a TOI report on non-functional streetlights in several parts of the city, Noida Authority's electrical and maintenance department officials and the contractor visited the spots and initiated work to fix the snags.

In most of the areas, the streetlights were malfunctioning because of damaged cables. Work is expected to be completed by Friday.

"During the inspection, more than 17 faulty street lights were spotted in Children's Park, while over 30 were found in Meghdootam Park," said Sanjeev Kumar, RWA general secretary of blocks C to F, Sector 51.

E&M division's senior managers Ravinder Kumar and Gaurav Shukla, manager Sunil Kashyup, and supervisor Tushar, along with engineers Ajay and Abhay from the Tata Street Lights were part of the inspection team.

On Tuesday, TOI reported that about 52 lights, including those in Meghdootam Park in Sector 50, around 20 lights in Children's Park located in Sector 51, and an entire dark stretch on the road in front of Arun Vihar, Sector 37 community centre, among others, were plunged in darkness due to non-functional lights.

Walking in these parks and roads has become a safety issue for residents, especially children.

Residents said that the problem isn't limited to these particular areas.

"Faulty streetlights can be found all over both Noida and Greater Noida, and not just in residential sectors but even on the main roads. Additionally, branches of unpruned trees also cover many streetlights," said another resident.
