NEW DELHI: The government on Friday clarified that ATMs are not being closed, as disinformation continued to flood social media amid the ongoing conflict with Pakistan.
"Are ATMs closed? A viral WhatsApp message claims ATMs will be closed for 2–3 days. This message is FAKE. ATMs will continue to operate as usual. Don't share unverified messages," PIB Fact Check posted on its X handle.
According to the viral "INDO VS PAK IMP" message, ATMs would be closed for the "next 2-3 days probably" due to "ransomware cyber-attack among war of Pakistan."
"Don't do any online transactions today. Please inform all contacts from your list not to open a video called the 'Dance of the Hillary'. It is a virus that formats your mobile," the message stated.
It also claimed that a total of 74 countries were affected by this "massive ransomware attack."
