As the Ottawa Senators charge toward a critical playoff push, fans were understandably anxious when star forward and team captain Brady Tkachuk missed back-to-back games this week. However, according to a recent update from TSN insider Pierre LeBrun, there’s good news on the horizon — the injury is not as serious as some feared.
Latest Brady Tkachuk’s injury update brings relief to Ottawa Senators fans as playoff race heats up
Brady Tkachuk was injured during a collision with Ryan Graves in Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. While the Senators confirmed he would sit out Thursday night’s matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning — a game they won 2–1 — LeBrun reassured fans during TSN’s Insider Trading that the team is simply being cautious.
“I don't think there should be alarm bells here in this situation,” LeBrun reported. “What I was told even after that news was that he absolutely does remain day-to-day, that this is not an ailment that has gotten worse over the last couple of days, and in fact, as one source said, he's actually improving.”
That confirmation will be a relief to fans, as Tkachuk’s presence has been instrumental to the Senators’ season. With 29 goals and 55 points in 71 games, he leads the team in both categories. His leadership on and off the ice has played a vital role in Ottawa's surge to a 40–29–6 record and a five-point lead in the Eastern Conference wild-card race.
Head coach Travis Green also spoke earlier this week, noting, “It's not what you want, that's for sure. But that's part of the NHL, you're going to lose guys. Hopefully, he'll just be out for a game.”
Although this upper-body injury isn’t related to the lower-body issue Tkachuk sustained during February’s 4 Nations Face-Off, his continued absence has exceeded initial expectations. Still, the Senators are prioritizing long-term health over short-term gains — a smart move considering what's at stake.

With both Ottawa and Montreal having played 75 games, every point matters. The Senators will be hoping their captain returns soon — refreshed, healthy, and ready to lead them into the postseason.
