Alim McNeill has signed a four-year extension with the Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions, after losing Pro Bowl edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson due to a serious leg injury, quickly secured their second-best pass rusher, defensive tackle Alim McNeill. Lions general manager Brad Holmes has signed third-round pick, Alim McNeill, to a four-year, $97 million contract with $55 million guaranteed.

McNeill's new deal averages $24.3 million per year, making him the fourth-highest average per year salary in the NFL among defensive tackles. His $97 million total contract value is the fourth-highest in the NFL, behind Chris Jones, Christian Wilkins, and Nnamdi Madubuike. His $55 million guaranteed contract is also the fourth-highest contract guarantee in the league among defensive tackles, ahead of only Jones, Wilkins, and Payne.

McNeill's 7.5 sacks and 50 quarterback pressures since the start of the 2023 season are tied for the second-most on the Lions, behind Hutchinson's 19.0 sacks and 146 quarterback pressures. His 79.8 defensive grade ranks as the seventh-highest in the league among defensive tackles with at least 100 snaps this season. McNeill tied his single-game career-high in sacks in Detroit's 47-9 beatdown of the Dallas Cowboys with two on Sunday. The Lions will need more of their newly-paid defensive lineman as they and Detroit's defense attempt to fill the void left by Hutchinson's absence.
