WWE wrestler JD McDonagh shocked fans during a live event in Newcastle after revealing a Liverpool shirt with Alexander Isak’s name in the middle of a match.
The incident took place during a six-man tag team contest where McDonagh teamed up with Finn Balor and Dominik Mysterio against CM Punk, Sami Zayn and Penta. In front of a home crowd largely supporting Newcastle United, McDonagh stripped off his outer gear to reveal the Liverpool-Isak jersey, drawing loud boos from the arena.

The wrestler fuelled the reaction further by posing and flexing while pointing to the shirt. He even cupped his ears towards the crowd, seemingly to rile them up. After the event, he shared a clip on X with the caption “#FREEISAK,” echoing Liverpool fans’ demand that Newcastle allow the Swedish striker to move to Anfield.
The stunt comes against the backdrop of ongoing transfer drama between Liverpool and Newcastle over Isak. The striker is reportedly keen to join the Merseyside club, but Newcastle are demanding for a British record fee of around £150 million. Liverpool had earlier tabled an offer in the region of £110 million, which was rejected.
With Isak making it clear he does not intend to play for Newcastle this season if a move is blocked, negotiations are at a tense stage. The Magpies risk unsettling their squad at the start of the Premier League campaign, while Liverpool, who have already signed the likes of Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, continue to push for a deal.
McDonagh’s in-ring stunt has added a dramatic twist to an already heated transfer saga.
Adding fuel to the fire, Liverpool take on Newcastle United tonight at St James' Park. Isak however, will play no part in the clash as confirmed by Newcastle boss Eddie Howe.
