The legal battle between Indian IT giant Infosys and US-based Cognizant Technology Solutions has intensified, with Infosys filing fresh charges in a US district court in Dallas, Texas. The latest filing accuses Cognizant of leveraging its monopoly power to stifle competition and maintain dominance in the healthcare software market through its platform, Cognizant TriZetto Software Group .

Infosys vs Cognizant: Allegations of market control
As reproted by Economic Times, Infosys has alleged that Cognizant engaged in anti-competitive practices , including charging inflated prices to customers by reducing output and blocking competitors from entering the market. The filing claims that Cognizant used restrictive non-disclosure agreements (NDAAs), withheld training on its software products QNXT and Facets, and induced disloyal behaviour from key Infosys employees to obstruct the growth of Infosys's healthcare platform, Helix.

The 35-page document, submitted on March 31, also accuses Cognizant of employing exclusionary tactics, such as the use of "most favored vendor" (MFV) agreements, to maintain its market dominance . Infosys has requested the court to deny Cognizant's motion to dismiss the case and has labeled the company's actions as "attempted monopolization" and "unreasonable restraint of trade."

Infosys vs Cognizant: Background of the disputeThe legal tussle began in August 2024, when Cognizant accused Infosys of stealing trade secrets related to TriZetto. Infosys responded in January 2025 by filing an antitrust counterclaim, alleging that Cognizant's anti-competitive strategies hindered fair competition. Infosys also named Cognizant's CEO, Ravi Kumar S, accusing him of delaying the launch of Infosys Helix during his tenure at Infosys and poaching key executives after joining Cognizant in January 2023.

Cognizant has dismissed Infosys's allegations as "preposterous" and "absurd," asserting that Infosys misused its intellectual property. The company has maintained that it encourages fair competition but will not tolerate the misuse of its proprietary information.

Infosys is represented by Jenner & Block LLP and Lynn Pinker Hurst & Schwegmann, while Cognizant is represented by Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP. The rivalry between Infosys and Cognizant has been long-standing, with both companies competing for the second spot in India's IT services export market. In 2023, the revenue gap between the two narrowed to $1 billion, with Cognizant reporting $19.7 billion in revenue for 2024, compared to Infosys's $18.6 billion.
