NEW DELHI: Congress leader Pawan Khera launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and external affairs minister S Jaishankar on Monday, particularly regarding US President Donald Trump 's claims about mediating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan .
"During last week, US President kept on saying that he mediated ceasefire talks between India and Pakistan. This is a very dangerous comment," Khera said.
Khera accused the government of being silent while using the Hindi phrase "sindoor ka sauda hota raha aur pradhan mantri chup rahe," suggesting deals were being made during Operation Sindoor while the Prime Minister remained quiet.
He questioned the government's relationship with global powers: "What secrets are PM Modi , Jaishankar, and other BJP ministers hiding with America and China? Why must the nation suffer because of these undisclosed agendas?"
What has happened till now?
Khera's statement comes amid criticism of external affairs minister S Jaishankar over his remark. Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi shared an undated video of Jaishankar on May 17, where he is heard saying that India had warned Pakistan before launching Operation Sindoor.
"Informing Pakistan at the start of our attack was a crime. EAM has publicly admitted that GOI did it." He also asked, "Who authorised it? How many aircraft did our air force lose as a result?" Gandhi wrote while sharing the video.
The leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha, Gandhi, again questioned Jaishankar today in a new post on X and asked how many Indian aircraft were lost during the operation.
" EAM Jaishankar ’s silence isn’t just telling — it’s damning. So I’ll ask again: How many Indian aircraft did we lose because Pakistan knew?" Gandhi posted on X.
What did MEA say?
The ministry of external affairs (MEA) called Congress's remarks on EAM a "misrepresentation of facts."
The ministry clarified that the government had warned Pakistan in the "early phase after Operation Sindoor’s commencement" and not before it began.
It further said, "We had warned Pakistan at the start, which is clearly the early phase after Op Sindoor’s commencement." The ministry added, "This is being falsely represented as being before the commencement. This utter misrepresentation of facts is being called out."
