NEW DELHI: UK PM Keir Starmer will travel to Mumbai on October 8-9 for his first official visit to India. Starmer will be in Mumbai to address the 6th edition of the Global Fintech Fest along with counterpart Narendra Modi and both leaders will also have a bilateral meeting there in which they will review progress in diverse aspects of the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in line with the newly launched Vision 2035.
The leaders had last met in July when Modi visited London to formalise the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement.
The leaders had launched Vision 35, a roadmap expected to serve as a roadmap for a strong, trusted, and ambitious partnership in the areas of technology, defence, security, climate, education, and people-to-people connectivity.
Like last time, the Indian side is expected to raise concerns related to Khalistan extremism and the need to ensure extradition of economic offenders like Nirav Modi . Talks are also expected on a defence industrial roadmap developed to deepen cooperation in defence and security.
"Both leaders will engage with businesses and industry leaders on opportunities presented by the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) as a central pillar of the future India-UK economic partnership. They will also exchange views on issues of regional and global importance," said the MEA in an official announcement about Starmer's visit.
