AHMEDABAD: Protests by students at Ahmedabad's National Institute of Design ( NID ) continued on the second consecutive day Tuesday over faculty transfers by their new director, Ashok Mondal .
No fewer than 20 faculty members and heads of departments were transferred in a sweeping order by the director immediately after he took charge a few days ago.
The protesters have alleged that the transfers violated rules. Even Praveen Nahar, the outgoing director, was not given a formal send-off, sources said. After discussions with the protesting students on Monday, Mondal assured them of writing an email outlining answers to all their concerns, including mid-term changes to the faculty.
"The director indeed sent an email, but it is so vague and non-committal that the student community felt betrayed. Answers were not given to questions such as why all women in lead positions were removed. The director said all questions shall be answered in due course. The students thus decided to protest & demand answers," a source at the institute said.
