Utah governor Spencer Cox revealed Sunday that Charlie Kirk assassination suspect Tyler Robinson is not cooperating with investigators. He also confirmed that Robinson's live-in partner is transgender.
Speaking on Sunday morning talk shows, Cox said Robinson’s romantic partner, as well as his family, are cooperating with the FBI investigation into Kirk’s killing.
Cox described Robinson as “deeply indoctrinated in leftist ideology.” “That information comes from the people around him — his family members and friends,” he told CNN’s State of the Union, as quoted by The New York Post.
Authorities are still working to determine a motive and plan to file charges against the 22-year-old suspected shooter on Tuesday, Cox said.
Confirming reporting by The Post, Cox said Robinson’s roommate was transgender but cautioned against linking that to a motive. “The roommate was a romantic partner, a male transitioning to female,” Cox said. “This partner has been incredibly cooperative [and] had no idea that this was happening. And, he’s working with investigators right now.”
Robinson, who lived in St. George, Utah, shared an apartment with the individual. The FBI confirmed the two were in a romantic relationship.
While the Bureau declined to comment on whether Robinson’s partner could face charges, a spokesperson emphasised the scale of the investigation.
Cox also noted that he recently spoke with US President Trump about the shooting.
